Best AI Video Generators 2026
The best AI video generator depends on the video. HeyGen and Synthesia make AI presenter videos, Runway generates footage, InVideo AI builds a finished video from a prompt, and OpusClip cuts long videos into shorts. Paid plans start at $9 to $29 a month. Here is what each one buys in November 2026.
Key Takeaways
- There is no single best AI video tool. These five do four different jobs: presenter videos, generated footage, prompt-to-video and clipping.
- HeyGen fits marketing and sales presenters; Synthesia fits company training.
- Runway is priced by the second: $15 buys about 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 footage a month.
- InVideo AI is the cheapest paid entry ($9 per seat, $4 billed yearly) and resells models such as Seedance, Veo and Sora.
- OpusClip only cuts footage you already have; one credit is about one minute of source video.
- Every tool here bills in credits, and most do not roll unused credits over, so size the plan to a month of real output.

Which kind of AI video tool do you need?
"AI video generator" covers four different products. Decide which video you are making before you compare prices, because the best presenter tool cannot cut your podcast into clips, and the best clipping tool cannot make a video from nothing.
A presenter on camera
A person, real or stock, reads your script: explainers, sales messages, training. HeyGen and Synthesia make these, including a custom avatar of you made from a short recording.
Footage you cannot film
A product shot, an ad scene or b-roll generated from text or an image. Runway does this, priced per second of output.
A finished video from a prompt
Script, voiceover, stock and AI clips edited together. InVideo AI does this end to end, and you can edit the result on a timeline.
Clips from your long videos
Podcasts, webinars and streams cut into vertical shorts with captions. OpusClip does this, and Pro schedules the posts.

How much video does each plan actually buy?
All five bill in credits, and a credit means something different in each. This is what the entry paid plan turns into, on monthly billing.
| Tool | Entry plan | What it buys a month | Next step up |
|---|---|---|---|
| $29 Creator | 600 credits; videos up to 30 minutes; 1080p; no HeyGen branding | $49 Pro (1,000 credits, 4K); Business $149 + $20 per seat | |
| $19 Starter | 1,250 credits, about 12 minutes of avatar video; 125+ avatars | $89 Pro (6,000 credits, about 60 minutes) | |
| $15 Standard | 625 credits: 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 or 104 seconds of Gen-4 Turbo | $35 Pro (2,250 credits, 187 seconds of Gen-4.5); $95 Max | |
| $9 Basic (per seat) | 190 credits, about 7 Seedance 2 Fast videos; full timeline editor | $30 Pro (1,000 credits); $80 Ultra (3,000 credits) | |
| $15 Starter | 150 credits, about 150 minutes of source video to clip; no watermark | $29 Pro (300 credits, scheduler, 2 seats) |
Minutes and seconds are the vendors' own estimates. HeyGen does not publish a fixed number of minutes per credit, because cost depends on the model and video. Synthesia's minutes fall if you use lip-sync, B-roll or newer models from the same credits.
What is the cheapest AI video setup for your budget?
Three budgets, and what we would put in each. Start with the job you do most often and add a second tool only when the first one cannot cover it.
Free
$0 / month
OpusClip's 60 credits clip an hour of footage a month (watermarked). Synthesia gives 10 minutes of avatar video to test with, and HeyGen 3 short videos. Use free plans to choose a tool, not to publish.
Under $35
$9 – $35 / month
OpusClip Starter ($15) if you record long videos; HeyGen Creator ($29) for a presenter; InVideo AI Pro ($30, or $15 yearly) for prompt-to-video. Pick one job and one tool.
Content team
$80 – $200 / month
HeyGen Pro or Synthesia Pro for presenter videos, plus Runway Pro ($35) for generated shots and OpusClip Pro ($29) to cut everything into clips. Most teams use two of these, not all five.

HeyGen: best for AI presenter videos for marketing
HeyGen turns a script into a video of an AI presenter, using stock avatars or a custom avatar made from a short recording of you. It also translates existing videos into other languages with matching lip movement, and its paid plans now include generative video models, its own and Seedance, for scenes around the avatar.
The free plan makes 3 videos a month, up to a minute each, with a watermark. Creator is $29 a month ($24 billed yearly) for 600 credits, 1080p export and videos up to 30 minutes. Pro is $49 for 1,000 credits and 4K, and Business is $149 plus $20 per extra seat, with 60-minute videos and five custom avatars. Credits roll over for one month on monthly plans.
Best for: Product explainers, sales outreach, social videos and translated versions of existing videos. Skip if: you need a training platform with surveys, roleplay and enterprise controls, where Synthesia is built for the job.
Synthesia: best for training and internal video
Synthesia is aimed at companies that make a lot of training, onboarding and policy videos. Beyond avatar videos it covers dubbing, interactive surveys and roleplay sessions, and on Enterprise adds SSO and unlimited minutes. Every plan includes 140+ languages and voices.
The free plan gives 10 minutes a month with 9 avatars, but videos carry a watermark and cannot be downloaded. Starter is $19 a month ($14 billed yearly, $168 a year) for 1,250 credits, about 12 minutes of video. Pro is $89 ($59 billed yearly) for 6,000 credits, about 60 minutes. Credits are a shared pool, so dubbing, lip-sync and newer models eat into your minutes.
Best for: L&D, HR and internal comms teams producing training content in many languages. Skip if: you make short marketing or social videos, where HeyGen’s cheaper minutes and longer videos go further.
Runway: best for generated footage
Runway generates video from a text prompt or a still image: product shots, ad scenes, b-roll and visual concepts that would be expensive to film. Its own Gen-4.5 model sits alongside third-party models such as Kling and Seedance, and Aleph 2.0 edits existing footage, for example changing the weather or the camera angle of a shot.
It is priced by the second. Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits a second, so Standard ($15, or $12 yearly) makes about 52 seconds a month, Pro ($35, or $28 yearly) about 187 seconds and Max ($95, or $76 yearly) about 791 seconds. Gen-4 Turbo doubles those numbers. The free plan is 125 one-time credits. Unused credits do not roll over except on Max, which keeps them for a month.
Best for: Ads, b-roll and creative shots that stock footage cannot cover. Skip if: you need a person talking to camera or a finished, edited video, where HeyGen or InVideo AI fit better.
InVideo AI: best for a finished video from a prompt
InVideo AI writes a script, adds a voiceover, picks stock and AI-generated clips and edits them into a finished video from one prompt, which you can then change in its timeline editor. It resells third-party models, including Seedance, Veo, Sora and Kling, at what it calls their original API pricing, so one subscription covers several models.
Plans are per seat: Basic is $9 a month ($4 billed yearly) for 190 credits, about 7 Seedance 2 Fast videos; Pro is $30 ($15 yearly) for 1,000 credits and every model; Ultra is $80 ($40 yearly) for 3,000 credits. Pro and Ultra add free guest seats. Credits do not roll over, and InVideo says it can change credit costs without notice.
Best for: Marketers and creators who want edited explainers, ads and faceless videos without hiring an editor. Skip if: you need a realistic human presenter (HeyGen, Synthesia) or precise control over individual shots (Runway).
OpusClip: best for turning long videos into shorts
OpusClip does not invent video; it cuts yours. Upload a podcast, webinar or stream and it picks the moments most likely to perform, reframes them to vertical, adds animated captions and scores each clip for virality. Pro adds a social scheduler that posts to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and more.
One credit is roughly one minute of source video. The free plan gives 60 credits a month, with a watermark and a 3-day window to export. Starter is $15 a month for 150 credits and is monthly only. Pro is $29 a month for 300 credits with two months of rollover and two seats. The pricing page showed Pro at $174 a year, but a UsagePricing capture dated October 6, 2026 reported annual Pro rising to about $233, so confirm the yearly price at checkout.
Best for: Podcasters, coaches, webinar hosts and streamers who already record long-form video. Skip if: you do not record long videos; there is nothing for it to clip.
Why do AI video credits run out so fast?
Every tool here has moved to credits shared across features, and the same credit buys very different amounts depending on the model. On Runway, a second of Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits and a second of Seedance 2.0 Pro costs 40. On Synthesia, turning on lip-sync doubles the cost of a video. Retries count too: a generation you throw away costs the same as one you keep.
In practice: draft with the cheaper model (Gen-4 Turbo on Runway, Seedance Fast on InVideo) and only render the final version on the expensive one; check whether unused credits roll over before choosing yearly billing; and buy a top-up pack for a busy month rather than moving up a whole plan.
How We Compared These Tools
We read each vendor's pricing page on November 1, 2026 and took plan prices, credit allowances and free-plan limits from there. Where a vendor converts credits into minutes or seconds, we quote its own figure. Two points came from third parties and are labelled: InVideo's free tier, which is not on its pricing page, and a reported October 2026 change to OpusClip's annual Pro price.
We did not run quality benchmarks or score these tools out of 10. They make different kinds of video, so a single ranking would only reward whichever job we had in mind. Each tool gets a "best for" and a caveat instead. We have no affiliate relationship with any of the five.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best AI video generator in 2026?
It depends on the video you need. HeyGen is the most flexible for avatar videos for marketing and sales, from $29 a month. Synthesia is built for company training videos, from $19. Runway generates footage from text or images, from $15. InVideo AI turns a prompt into a finished video with stock and AI clips, from $9 per seat. OpusClip cuts long videos into short social clips, from $15.
What is the best free AI video generator?
For avatar videos, Synthesia’s free plan gives 10 minutes a month but does not allow downloads, and HeyGen’s gives 3 videos a month of up to 1 minute with a watermark. For clipping, OpusClip’s free plan gives 60 credits a month, about 60 minutes of source video, with a watermark. Runway gives 125 one-time credits, about 10 seconds of Gen-4.5 footage. None of the free plans is meant for published commercial work.
HeyGen vs Synthesia: which is better?
HeyGen suits marketing, sales and social content: more avatar styles, 175+ languages on Creator, video translation and longer videos on cheaper plans. Synthesia suits training and internal communications at larger companies, with roleplay, surveys, dubbing and enterprise controls. Synthesia’s entry plan is cheaper ($19 vs $29 monthly), but it buys about 12 minutes of video a month.
How much does Runway cost per second of video?
Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits per second, so Standard’s 625 credits ($15 a month) make about 52 seconds and Pro’s 2,250 credits ($35) about 187 seconds. Gen-4 Turbo is cheaper, giving 104 seconds on Standard. Runway also runs third-party models such as Kling and Seedance at their own credit prices. Unused credits do not roll over except on Max, which keeps them for one month.
Is InVideo AI free?
InVideo’s pricing page lists three paid plans and no free plan: Basic at $9 per seat a month ($4 billed yearly), Pro at $30 ($15 yearly) and Ultra at $80 ($40 yearly). Third-party reviews describe a limited, watermarked free tier after sign-up. Credits are shared across InVideo’s own agent and third-party models, and unused credits do not roll over.
What is the best AI tool for turning long videos into shorts?
OpusClip is built for this: it finds moments in a podcast, webinar or stream, reframes them to 9:16, adds animated captions and can post to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram. One credit is roughly one minute of source video, so Starter’s 150 credits ($15) clip about two and a half hours a month. HeyGen, Synthesia and Runway make new video rather than clipping yours.
Can I use AI video generators for commercial work?
Paid plans on all five allow commercial use, but check each plan’s terms. Free plans add a watermark, and Synthesia’s free plan does not allow downloads. For avatar videos of a real person, HeyGen and Synthesia require that person’s consent before creating a custom avatar.
Which AI video generator is best for a small business?
If you have long videos already, start with OpusClip to turn them into social posts. If you need explainer or product videos without filming, HeyGen Creator or InVideo AI are the cheapest complete options. Add Runway only when you need generated footage, such as a product shot or ad scene, that stock clips cannot cover.
