# Bending Spoons Now Owns Miro. Here Are the Alternatives.

**Bending Spoons completed its $1.355 billion purchase of Miro on October 26, 2026.** Nothing about Miro's pricing has changed yet. If you want a plan B: FigJam suits Figma teams, Mural suits facilitated workshops, Whimsical suits product specs, and Excalidraw suits engineers. Back up your boards first either way.

## Key takeaways

* Bending Spoons completed its acquisition of Miro on October 26, 2026, at a $1.355 billion enterprise value announced on September 10.
* No Miro price, plan or product change had been announced at closing; Miro still lists Starter at $8 and Business at $20 per member a month.
* Bending Spoons has cut staff and raised prices after earlier deals such as Evernote, WeTransfer and Meetup, which is why customers are looking.
* FigJam, Mural, Whimsical and Excalidraw each fit a different team; there is no single replacement for every Miro use.
* Miro has no bulk export. Back up important boards as vector PDFs now, whatever you decide.

## What does the Bending Spoons deal mean for Miro users?

Bending Spoons agreed to buy Miro on September 10, 2026 in an all-cash deal, and said on October 26 that it had closed. Miro brings about $600 million in annual recurring revenue, nearly 4 million paying users and more than 250,000 customers. Bending Spoons' CEO Luca Ferrari says the company acquires businesses "with the intention of owning and operating them for the long term."

The reason people are searching for alternatives is not anything Miro has done. It is what Bending Spoons has done with earlier purchases, and the fact that neither company has said what happens to Miro's prices or plans.

### What has changed

Ownership. Miro joins a portfolio that includes Airtable, AOL, Brightcove, Eventbrite, Evernote, Vimeo and WeTransfer. Bending Spoons says it will study how Miro operates before deciding on structure and roles.

### What has not, yet

Prices, plans and product. Miro's pricing page still shows Starter at $8 and Business at $20 per member a month on annual billing, and no plan change was announced at closing.

### Why people are nervous

Appfigures reports that WeTransfer cut 75% of staff within two months of its 2024 acquisition, that Evernote's pricing roughly tripled, and that Meetup organizer prices rose. Vimeo had layoffs after its 2025 deal.

### Why Miro may differ

Those were mostly consumer apps. Nearly 90% of Miro's revenue comes from business and enterprise customers on contracts, which makes sudden changes harder and slower. Airtable, which closed shortly before, is the closer comparison.

**The honest position:** nobody outside the two companies knows what will change at Miro, or when. Anything you read predicting specific price increases is a guess based on other products.

**Do you need to move now?** Most teams do not. Miro is still the most complete whiteboard for large workshops and enterprise rollouts, and a migration costs real time. What every team should do this month is back up the boards that matter and note its renewal date. Move now only if Miro was already too expensive for you, the free plan's three-board limit was already in your way, or you already pay for a tool that includes a whiteboard.

## Quick Verdict

![](https://appstackbuilder.com/figma.svg)FigJam

Figma's whiteboard, included with every Figma seat. The obvious move for product teams that already design in Figma, and it imports Miro boards directly.

Figma teams$3 Collab seat

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=mural.co&sz=128)Mural

The closest like-for-like for workshop-heavy teams. Its free plan has the same three-editable-board limit as Miro's, and paid plans start just above Miro Starter.

WorkshopsFrom $9.99

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=whimsical.com&sz=128)Whimsical

Boards and docs in one tool, built for flowcharts, wireframes and specs. A good fit if your Miro use was mostly product planning rather than group workshops.

Product specsFrom $10

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=excalidraw.com&sz=128)Excalidraw

The open-source, hand-drawn-style whiteboard engineers already use for architecture sketches. Free in the browser; Excalidraw+ adds saved scenes and team sharing.

Open source$6 Plus

TL;DR

No single replacement — pick on what you used Miro for. Already on Figma → **FigJam**. Running workshops and retros → **Mural**. Specs, flows and wireframes → **Whimsical**. Engineering diagrams on a zero budget → **Excalidraw**. Happy with Miro → stay, and keep a backup.

## Miro alternatives at a glance

Paid prices are per member per month on annual billing, from each vendor's pricing page on October 26, 2026, except Excalidraw+, which lists its monthly price.

## What are the best Miro alternatives?

For reference, Miro's free plan keeps your three most recent boards editable, Starter is $8 and Business is $20 per member a month billed annually, and Enterprise starts at 30 members.

### FigJam

Figma's whiteboard

$3/mo Collab seat

On Figma Professional; $5 on Organization and Enterprise

* Included with every Figma seat, so Figma teams may already have it
* Collab seats include 500 AI credits a month
* AI templates, sticky-note sorting and summaries
* Imports Miro boards exported as vector PDFs
* Sits next to your design files, so handoff stays in one place
* CaveatA Collab seat covers FigJam and Slides, not editing Figma Design files. Large structured workshops, enterprise diagramming and Miro's long tail of integrations are thinner here.

Best for: Product and design teams that already pay for Figma.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=mural.co&sz=128)

### Mural

Visual workspace for workshops

$9.99/mo Team+

Per member, annual ($12 monthly); Business $17.99

* Free plan: unlimited murals, 3 editable at a time
* Unlimited view-only visitors on the free plan
* Built around facilitation: workshop templates and rooms
* Enterprise plan for larger organizations, priced on request
* CaveatThe free plan has open rooms only, one workspace and no guest access. Moving from Miro to Mural is a sideways step on price, so it makes sense for features or fit, not savings.

Best for: Teams that run regular workshops, retros and training sessions.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=whimsical.com&sz=128)

### Whimsical

Boards and docs for product work

$10/mo Pro

Per editor, annual; Business $20

* Boards and docs in one workspace
* Flowcharts, wireframes and mind maps
* Business plan at $20 per editor for larger teams
* Annual billing saves 17% versus monthly
* CaveatThe free plan caps you at 50 new board objects and 50 doc blocks a month, watermarks exports and keeps 7 days of history. It is a trial, not a free tier to live on.

Best for: Product managers and small teams writing specs, flows and wireframes.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=excalidraw.com&sz=128)

### Excalidraw

Open-source sketching whiteboard

$0 on excalidraw.com

Excalidraw+ $6/user/mo, 14-day trial

* Open source; free editor with unlimited collaborators
* End-to-end encryption, handled in the browser
* Excalidraw+ adds unlimited scenes, folders and cloud saving
* Plus: comments, presentations, PDF and PPTX export
* Plus: 100 AI requests a day, or bring your own key
* CaveatBuilt for diagrams and sketches, not facilitated workshops: no voting, timers or structured templates on the scale of Miro or Mural. The free Excalidraw+ tier holds one scene; more scenes and folders need Plus.

Best for: Engineering teams sketching architecture, and anyone on a zero budget.

## How much does a Miro alternative cost for a team of 10?

Ten people who all need to edit boards, on each tool's entry paid plan. Annual billing except Excalidraw+, which lists a monthly price. Miro Starter for the same team is about $80 a month, and Miro Business about $200.

![](https://appstackbuilder.com/figma.svg)

### FigJam

\~$30/mo

Ten Collab seats on Professional. $0 extra for people who already hold a Figma seat.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=mural.co&sz=128)

### Mural

\~$100/mo

Ten members on Team+ at $9.99.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=whimsical.com&sz=128)

### Whimsical

\~$100/mo

Ten editors on Pro at $10.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=excalidraw.com&sz=128)

### Excalidraw+

\~$60/mo

Ten users at $6; less on annual billing. $0 on excalidraw.com.

**Price is not the main reason to switch.** Mural and Whimsical cost slightly more than Miro Starter for the same team. FigJam and Excalidraw are cheaper, but do less. If you move, move for fit and for not depending on one owner's next pricing decision.

## Other Miro alternatives worth knowing

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=lucid.co&sz=128)Lucidspark

Lucid's whiteboard, paired with Lucidchart for formal diagrams. It has the most complete Miro import guide we found: vector PDF, copy and paste, CSV and an API route. Worth a look for teams that live in diagrams. Check Lucid's pricing page for current plans.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=tldraw.com&sz=128)tldraw

A free, instant collaborative whiteboard at tldraw.com, and an SDK developers use to build whiteboards into their own products. A good pick for quick sessions with no sign-up, or if you want a canvas inside your app.

## Which Miro alternative fits your team?

### You already pay for Figma

**FigJam.** Your designers already have it, Collab seats for everyone else are $3, and Miro boards import as editable sticky notes, shapes and connectors.

![](https://appstackbuilder.com/figma.svg)FigJam

### You run workshops, retros or training

**Mural**, or stay on Miro. Both are built around facilitation. Mural is the closest like-for-like if you want to stop depending on Miro.

### You mostly write specs, flows and wireframes

**Whimsical.** Boards and docs together means the flowchart and the spec live in the same place.

![](https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=whimsical.com&sz=128)Whimsical

### You are an engineering team or have no budget

**Excalidraw** or **tldraw**. Both are free in the browser, and Excalidraw is open source, so no future owner can take it away.

## How do you move boards out of Miro?

Miro has no bulk export, so this takes longer than people expect. Steps 1 to 3 are worth doing even if you stay.

1. 1.
List the boards that matter
Most teams have hundreds of boards and use a few dozen. Sort by last edited and pick the ones you would miss.
2. 2.
Note your renewal date
Check your plan and billing date in Miro’s settings, so a price change cannot surprise you mid-contract.
3. 3.
Export each board as a vector PDF
Board menu, Save as image, choose Vector. Vector export is a paid Miro feature. Export tables and cards as CSV when you need the data.
4. 4.
Import into the new tool
FigJam and Lucidspark read Miro vector PDFs and turn sticky notes, shapes and connectors into editable objects. Templates, embeds and widgets arrive as images.
5. 5.
Rebuild what did not survive
Comments are not carried over, and app widgets become pictures. Re-create the few you still need by hand.
6. 6.
Run one real session first
Hold a single workshop or planning meeting in the new tool before moving everyone.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Who owns Miro now?

Bending Spoons, the Milan-based software company (NASDAQ: BSP). It announced a definitive agreement to acquire Miro on September 10, 2026 at an enterprise value of $1.355 billion, about $1.79 billion in equity value including Miro’s net cash, and announced on October 26, 2026 that the acquisition was complete. Andrey Khusid, Miro’s co-founder, was still described as CEO in the closing coverage.

### Is Miro raising its prices?

Nothing had been announced as of October 26, 2026\. Miro’s pricing page still lists Free, Starter at $8 per member per month and Business at $20 per member per month (billed annually), with Enterprise quoted from 30 members. Bending Spoons has raised prices at several earlier acquisitions, so it is reasonable to watch your renewal, but there is no Miro price change to report yet.

### What is the best free alternative to Miro?

For a genuinely free, unlimited whiteboard, excalidraw.com and tldraw.com both work in the browser with no account, and Excalidraw is open source. Among the commercial tools, Mural’s free plan matches Miro’s limit of three editable boards, and FigJam is included free with Figma’s Starter plan with limited access. Whimsical’s free plan caps you at 50 new board objects a month.

### Can I import Miro boards into FigJam?

Yes. Export each Miro board with Save as image set to Vector, which produces a PDF, then import it into FigJam and choose Miro as the source. Sticky notes, text, shapes, frames and connectors come in as editable objects; templates, embeds and third-party widgets become images, and comments are not carried over. Miro has no bulk export, so it is one board at a time.

### How do I back up all my Miro boards?

Miro does not offer a bulk export. The practical route is to export each board you care about as a vector PDF (a paid Miro feature) and keep the PDFs somewhere you control, then export tables and cards as CSV where you need the data rather than the picture. Do it before your renewal date rather than after a change is announced.

### Is FigJam cheaper than Miro?

Usually. FigJam is included with every Figma seat, and a Collab seat on Figma Professional is $3 a month, against $8 for Miro Starter and $20 for Miro Business. For a team that already pays for Figma, FigJam often adds nothing to the bill. The trade-off is fewer enterprise workshop and diagramming features than Miro Business.

### Should I leave Miro now?

Most teams do not need to move today. Export backups of the boards that matter, note your renewal date, and trial one alternative with a real workshop so you have a plan. Move now if you were already unhappy with Miro’s price or the free plan limits, or if your team already pays for Figma and FigJam would do the job.
